In a bid to maintain law and order, and prevent incidents of religious violence, policemen have been deployed to secure the Assako Central Mosque in Nasarawa state following the discovery of an image of the Cross in the premises.
Over the past days, the appearance of the crucifix in the vicinity of the mosque has left people in awe as hundreds of people from the area and neighboring places have trooped to the mosque to behold the intriguing sight.
Mr. Abubakar Bello, Commissioner of Police for Nassarawa State visited the scene of the strange sighting and confirmed the deployment of security officials to the area.
Bello also visited the house of Osula Inarigu, the paramount ruler in the town, advising the people to try to live in peace with each other as that would bring about development.
The police chief stated that the appearance of the Cross should not lead to controversy in the area which as security had been beefed-up.
The Cross, a symbol of Jesus Christ and the Christian faith was illuminated on the ground close to the mosque.
Some Nigerians are already interpreting reports of the mysterious sighting to mean the supremacy of one religion above the other.
Hajara Hussaini disclosed that she was the first to see the light in the shape of a cross on Wednesday, September 28 when her mother sent her on an errand.
Her mother, Matan Liman also confirmed the strange appearance and said her daughter was gripped with fear when she returned.
Years back, a similar incident occurred in Makurdi, with hundreds of people trooping to Saint Augustine’s Catholic Church located in the Nenger area of Makurdi in Benue State following the appearance of an image’ of Jesus Christ.
