Manchester United football club has signed Wayne Rooney’s six-year-old son, Kai Rooney to its youth development squad.

6-year-old Kai participated in training at the club’s academy and has reportedly now joined the ranks as he seeks to follow in his father’s footsteps, much like Michael Carrick’s child, Jacey, who is also a member of the development squad.

Young Kai is no stranger to the big stage, having acted as a mascot with his father at matches including the 2014 Euro qualifier against Slovenia at Wembley and in 2015 at Old Trafford against Tottenham.

“Wayne and Michael really get into it when they bring their boys down. The kids seem to love it and have been coming down regularly in the week to train with the young development squad.

“It’s a bit funny because both their dads aren’t playing as much any more but these guys could be the club’s stars of the future.”

Wayne Rooney is England’s most-capped outfield player, winning his 117th cap in the 2-0 victory against Malta on Saturday. wayne rooney

However, his performances recently have been heavily criticised, The 30-year-old was booed by sections of the Wembley crowd at the weekend, when he operated in a deep-lying midfield role.

Wayne Rooney may be dropped to the bench for Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier against Slovenia.

Barring any last-minute injuries, manager Gareth Southgate will leave Rooney out of the starting XI as England look to preserve a 100% record.

Slovenia manager, Srecko Katanec says it will not surprise him if Rooney is left out by England as he feels the player “is not the youngest anymore and his form has taken a little dip.”

England’s victory over Malta gave them two wins out of two to leave them top of the group, two points ahead of second-placed, Scotland.
