Governor Ayo Fayose describes the economic retreat chaired by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo as a jamboree.

Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state has dared President Muhammadu Buhari to declare a state of emergency in Rivers state where there were incidents of violence ahead of the legislative rerun election.

According to The Cable, Fayose made the challenge to the president at the presidential villa in Abuja on Thursday, September 22, after attending a national economic council meeting.

Fayose told journalist shortly after the meeting chaired by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo that the economic retreat was a jamboree.

He said: “I was at the retreat and I can tell Nigerians categorically that it was just a jamboree. It was a waste of over N250m public fund because most of the resource persons were the same people who ran their states aground.”

The governor said the over N250 million spent on the retreat could have been given to those downtrodden Nigerians, who are trading with as little as N5,000.

“For instance, at N10,000 each, N250 million will go round 25,000 pepper sellers whose capital is not more than N5,000 and that would go a long way in boosting their trade,” he said.

Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti state has lashed out at Governor Ayodele Fayose for accusing President Muhammadu Buhari of being the major problem in Nigeria.

The party said Fayose is always criticizing the president because he is afraid of his impending day of reckoning when he would face the law for alleged official corruption, The Nation reports.

This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday, September 20, by the party’s spokesman, Taiwo Olatubosun.
